Wiquek Chapter began as a group of friends, isolated and separated from their former chapters by the district shift, who worked together to create a thriving community of dedicated brothers. Looking at our success, many ask, what does 'Wiquek' mean? Well, its translation is "mouth of the river", but to the members of the Wiquek Chapter, it means something fuller, something deeper. It represents trial and tribulation, the hard quest to success from the bottom of obscurity that we passed through to reach the level we are at today.
Wiquek attended its first OA event in its new reincarnation at the 2006 Spring Conclave. Fourteen scouts, and five adults. Apparently, all it truely takes to succeed is belief, determination, and hard work, because during that weekend, Wiquek Chapter left with the Golden Arrow, the highest honor awarded at the Conclave.
Future events saw much of the same, as Wiquek went on during the Fall Fellowship to take home the "Best Trained" award (see newsletter for October). We hope to continue this tradition of winning, as both our old and new members work together for the betterment of the Chapter, and in service to Tipisa Lodge.
Wiquek Chapter's first Ordeal also was carried out successfully; we are very proud of our new brothers who made it to the weekend, and were accepted into the Order. This achievement hints at the future of our Chapter, the levels of success we are at, and what we may someday reach, with the help of excellent members and advisors, who represent the true spirit of brotherhood and cheerful service.
